FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS THE MCKENZIE METHOD OF MDT?
MDT stands for Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy. The McKenzie Method is a system that focuses on rapid diagnostics and client autonomy by providing the patient with education and exercises to fix the problem and prevent it from coming back with as little passive care as possible. The goal is to move away from health care and move towards self care. The result is faster improvement, longer lasting results, and fewer health care visits resulting in significantly less cost to the patient.
WHY ARE YOUR RATES HIGHER THAN OTHERS?
Treatment using The McKenzie Method of MDT is incredibly detailed and thorough, and every appointment is an assessment. This means there is no treatment plan created for a 12-week course of care as there is with standard physiotherapy, and instead every appointment focuses on assessment/treatment/reassessment of all functional measures so that you leave better than when you came in. This focus on rapid change results in a significant decrease in the overall number of visits, as well as overall financial cost to the patient. I currently average 5 visits per episode of care, rather than 10-24+ visits commonly seen in physiotherapy.
DO I NEED A DOCTOR’S REFERRAL?
No! Physiotherapists are Primary Care Practitioners, meaning you can see a physiotherapist at any time. However, some insurance companies do still require a doctor's referral for reimbursement.
DO YOU BILL INSURANCE COMPANIES?
Unfortunately at this time I am not able to directly bill to your insurance; however, your receipt will provide you with all the information you need to quickly submit to your provider for reimbursement!
IS VIRTUAL CARE GOOD ENOUGH?
Yes, preliminary research in the United States on virtual care (provided by certified MDT therapists who are Outcomes Accountable Clinicians) is showing results equal to in-person care! However, if we feel you do need hands-on treatment we will discuss this and I will refer you on to the appropriate provider based on your geographical location.
WILL I SEE YOU IN PERSON?
I am now offering IN-PERSON treatments in my clinic on Fawn Bay Road, outside Orillia, Ontario.
Telehealth Clients: We will meet on a secure online platform, which includes audio and video. We will see each other and begin each session by talking about the problem, then we will both move through the exam together.
