FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE MCKENZIE METHOD OF MDT?

MDT stands for Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy.  The McKenzie Method is a system that focuses on rapid diagnostics and client autonomy by providing the patient with education and exercises to fix the problem and prevent it from coming back with as little passive care as possible. The goal is to move away from health care and move towards self care.   The result is faster improvement, long lasting results, and fewer health care visits resulting in significantly less cost to the patient.

DO I NEED A DOCTOR’S REFERRAL?

No! Physiotherapists are Primary Care Practitioners, meaning you can see a physiotherapist at any time.  However, some insurance companies do still require a doctor's referral for reimbursement.

HOW DO I KNOW IF YOU CAN HELP?

I can help if:
-you have been referred to physiotherapy by another provider
-you have pain or dysfunction relating to a muscle, tendon, joint, nerve, spine, or other musculoskeletal area
-you just had surgery or were in a cast, sling or splint
-you have already seen other practitioners and this did not help you; you want to try a different approach
-you have poor posture that you are looking to correct
-you want guidance on safe exercises specific for your body
-many other reasons: email me to ask!

WHAT DO I NEED FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

In Person Treatment:

  • Loose or stretchy clothing over the area of pain

Telehealth:

  • Internet connection

  • A device that supports audio and video (tablet, laptop, computer, smartphone)

  • A small space around you to move

  • Stretchy or loose clothing

IS VIRTUAL CARE GOOD ENOUGH?

Yes, preliminary research in the United States on virtual care (provided by certified MDT therapists who are Outcomes Accountable Clinicians) is showing results equal to in-person care!  However, I also see patients in-person in my clinic.  If you prefer to start off with telehealth appointments and we feel you do need hands-on treatment we can always switch between the two!

DO YOU ACCEPT MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT(MVA) OR WORKSAFE(WSIB)  CLAIMS?

Unfortunately I do not accept MVA or WSIB claims at this time.

DO YOU BILL INSURANCE COMPANIES?

Unfortunately at this time I am not able to directly bill to your insurance; however, your receipt will provide you with all the information you need to quickly submit to your provider for reimbursement!
